The Max Planck Society, an internationally renowned German research organisation, chooses Steria Mummert Consulting
In six months' time, a new SAP platform will replace the existing environment and will run for five years. Additional services, such as organising and controlling core business processes, could also be provided. The contract is set to generate several million euros over its five-year term, depending on the options selected by the Max Planck Society.
In the past, the Society's SAP systems were managed by three different service providers working in various fields, including accounting management, medium term financial planning, e-procurement and human resources management. Steria Mummert Consulting's partnership with ORGA, one of three existing service providers with extensive experience in running SAP platforms for the Max Planck society, is an opportunity for the Society to boost the efficiency of its day-to-day SAP operations. These systems will now be centralised at ORGA.
Steria Mummert Consulting will be responsible for the overall management of the project throughout its term. To accomplish this, the company will draw on its knowledge of the organisational structure of the Max Planck Society and the challenges it faces. Steria Mummert Consulting previously developed the Society's human resources management system (SAP HR) and is working on other projects such as "eSciDoc" and “Publication Manager”. eSciDoc is a new collaborative platform dedicated to researchers so that they can share documentation. Publication Manager, which is now being developed, is a workflow system organising the approval process of scientific publications.
About the Max Planck Society – (www.mpg.de)
The research institutes of the Max Planck Society perform basic research in the interest of the general public in the natural sciences, life sciences, social sciences and the humanities. The Max Planck Society takes up new and innovative research areas that German universities are not in a position to accommodate or deal with adequately. These interdisciplinary research areas often do not fit into the university organisation, or they require more funds for personnel and equipment than those available at universities. The variety of topics in the natural sciences and the humanities at Max Planck Institutes complement the work done at universities and other research facilities in important research fields. In certain areas, the institutes occupy key positions, while other institutes complement ongoing research. Moreover, some institutes perform service functions for research performed at universities by providing equipment and facilities to a wide range of scientists, such as telescopes, large-scale equipment, specialised libraries and documentary resources.
