Steria in the Community

Information technology in service to the community.

Steria is supporting the non-profit association Toemeka in training mentally disabled people to use electronic voting machines.

As a responsible corporate citizen, Steria is demonstrating its commitment to the community by supporting information technology projects that help to improve lives in general and more specifically projects designed to bring computer knowledge to disabled people. Steria brings its technical knowledge and encourages its personnel to participate in community projects to reach those goals.

Belgium has been using electronic voting for several years. To implement electronic voting, Steria was commissioned by the Registre National/Rijksregister to develop applications, deliver the voting materials to each commune and provide technical support on Election Day.

Steria brings to Toemeka its experience and knowledge in the domain of electronic voting. Toemeka, a socially conscience training organisation, organises, among other activities, courses on electoral politics. For different elections, Toemeka trains mentally disabled citizens to vote. Since 44% of the Belgian population votes electronically, Toemeka would like to ensure that disabled citizens are also trained for electronic voting.

Steria has prepared demonstration versions, given necessary instructor training and provided voting machines. As a result, many disabled citizens are now able to go to the polling station in confidence.
